I just wanted to say that this is a GREAT PICKUP! Note to the gentleman who wrote that you can't remove the horseshoe bridge cover... you can! It is not like the original horseshoe pickups where the cover was part of the magnetic field. This cover is just for show. It doesn't affect the tone at all by removing the cover. I installed the horseshoe pickup and the toaster pickup in my 96 4003. I also installed the original 4001 wiring harness on it. It sounds wonderful! It has a bite, growl and the clank you want a Ric to have! I also have a stock 74 4001 with the hi gains. I've got Geddy Lee's tone with that and Paul De Amour's tone (think of Chris Squiers tone on steroids) with the 4003! In any case, you can't go wrong! Why would you put any other pickups in a Ric except for Ric pickups? Why butcher it? Don't you buy a Ric for "THAT TONE" and "THAT LOOK"?

I ordered this to replace a dead bridge pickup in my 1975 4001 Rick after missing out on a vintage replacement on ebay. Although the horseshoe was not original equipment for my model/year, I always liked the look and decided to go for it since the price was right and the delivery time was very quick. It installed easy and sounds great. Since I typically play directly over the bridge pickup the non-removable horseshoe cover is taking a little getting used to, but I knew that when I bought it, so I'll just have to adjust a little. Definitely a great replacement pickup, especially if you usually play with the cover on.
